Short Biography: Datin Seri Ar Dr Norwina Mohd Nawawi

Datin Seri Dr Ar Norwina Mohd Nawawi is an architect, and a Senior Academic Fellow at the Department of Architecture, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Prior to joining IIUM in 1998, Norwina was a Senior Architect in the Public Works Department (PWD/JKR) Malaysia since 1979. In 1990 she was seconded to the Ministry of Health Malaysia as part of the project management Core Team for the 12 ADB loan hospital redevelopment projects from 1990-1998. After that she was seconded to International Islamic University Malaysia from 1998 as Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture to assist with the curriculum development till accreditation. She retired from PWD/JKR in 2008 and stayed as contract staff on Associate Professor post with IIUM until 31 July 2020. She continues her contract on a Senior Academic Fellow post at IIUM from 2 August 2020 till today at IIUM. At IIUM, apart from teaching Architectural Design, Professional Practice courses as well as supervising postgraduate students, she also taught Theory of Architecture, the History of Architecture and Masjid Architecture courses. She led the Islamic Architecture Heritage Unit (ISArcH) since 2013 and has conducted research as well as written articles and books in collaboration with others on Masjid, Malay, and healthcare architecture. Specialising in healthcare facility planning, she remained as an advisory consultant in the industry for healthcare projects. Norwina is a Fellow member of the Institute of Malaysian Architects (PAM). She represents PAM at the Union of International Architects (UIA) in Public Health Group and Architecture for All work programmes. She serves as senior member in the Social Responsibility Committee in PAM as well as in the Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) committee. Norwina is also a former member of the committee in IBS under the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), a member of Badan Warisan Malaysia (Heritage Trust) and ICOMOS Malaysia, and ICOMOS International. In ICOMOS, she sits on the committee for Sustainability (ISCES), Structures (ISCARSAH), Cultural Route (CIIC) and religious places (PRERICO).
