Abstract Gender justice is an emerging aspect of social justice, with varying interpretations across different intellectual systems. In the fundamentals of Islam, gender justice is defined as equal respect for the human dignity of both men and women. One practical application of this concept involves ensuring equal and balanced access for men and women to urban and architectural facilities. As half of Islamic society, women should have the right to attend mosques in accordance with their human dignity. The mosque, being a significant expression of the Islamic worldview, cannot be at odds with the concept of justice deeply embedded in this worldview. However, a prevalent issue observed in many local mosques, meant to be accessible to all segments of a community, is the allocation of second-class spaces for women. Contrary to historical practices during the time of the Prophet, where women faced no neglect in mosque spaces, contemporary mosques often limit or diminish women's presence. This qualitative research delves into the theoretical foundations and case examples related to gender justice in mosque design, analyzing historical perspectives and proposing a model for designing local mosques that ensures the honor and dignity of women in alignment with the principles of Islam.
