Tasnova Iqbal is an independent researcher in the field of multi-cultural characters of structures and places, heritage urbanism, heritage waterfronts, waterfronts, heritage fabric, urban fabric, designing facades for thermal comfort, urban density, urban regeneration, practice-oriented architecture education, and low-income housing.
She has published and presented numerous articles abroad in renowned conferences such as ACSA and ArcAsia and moderated international conferences.
Tasnova Iqbal has keen interest in culture, landscape and architecture photography and she is also a culture and landscape painter.</div>

<div class="pafe-acf-repeater-sub-field">The study focused on the multicultural attributes of Bangladesh’s heritage mosques to conserve it. Mosque architecture in Bangladesh, due to the country’s strategic location, has had influences of diverse cultures as people came to the land to trade and settle. Even though most of these heritage mosques are modest in scale they showcase a diverse cultural richness with features from Afghan, Mughal, Persian, South Indian and to some extent Buddhist architecture. Due to rapid technological advancements and increased population density the modest scale heritage mosques are under threat of demolition or extension, mutilating its multicultural features which once gave Bangladesh’s heritage mosque architecture its unique identity. The mosque selected for case study is Dewan Bari Mosque situated at Kishoreganj, Bangladesh. The Mosque was built by the then Governor of the area, Dewan Ghauce Khan at around 1750 AD who was a descendant of the leader of Baro bhuiyas of Bengal, Dewan Isa Khan. The mosque features can be traced back to Mughal and Sena Dynesty architecture. The mosque was built at Dewan Ghauce Khan’s private land to be used by his family and the local Muslims. Later in late 19th century the mosque was given to the village for greater good through a process called Waqf. In 2015 the local villagers decided to build a multistoried mosque at the paved terrace of the heritage mosque which if realized would have ruined its multicultural heritage façade and hence its overall identity. Later a hybrid proposal was designed, with a blend of heritage and modernity, that will cater to the village’s increased Muslim population and their comfort without hampering the mosque’s distinct features. The key research questions are: what are the attributes of Bangladesh’s multicultural heritage mosques and; how to conserve these mosques at present scenario. The research aims to explore the considerations to conserve the multicultural heritage mosques within contemporary challenges. To achieve the research aim, two research objectives formulated are; to identify the attributes of Bangladesh’s multicultural heritage mosques and to conserve the multicultural heritage mosques.</div>
