Bangladesh is known for its colorful contribution to the wide spectrum of world cultural heritage, including the mosque architecture. Since the early Islamic period in the 12th century, the architecture of mosques and their landscapes have undergone significant evolution. Traditional Bangladeshi mosques often include elements such as domes, minarets , tile work, brickwork and terracotta. The traditional mosque architecture in Bengal has been influenced by various nations and cultures, with Persian grace of delicate tile work and Mughal grandeur emphasizing domes , minarets and expansive courtyards. Use of brickwork and terracotta ornamentation is part of the local Bengali tradition. In modern architecture of mosques, the construction incorporates minimalistic design and more environment friendly material use which has reformed the standard idea of mosques from a societal perspective. There was a time when people couldn't think of mosques without minarets and domes. Now, in modern times, architects are rethinking about the traditional idea . Several traditional and contemporary case studies of mosque architecture in Bangladesh are presented and analyzed to manifest the blend of traditional values and contemporary practices.
