Design Guidelines of Mosques for the Context of Bengal Delta
Personal Biography
Tanveer Ahamed Bin Ali Naser graduated in Architecture (B.Arch.) from Khulna University in 2018. He received 'DISTINCTION’ for achieving the highest CGPA. Earlier, he was awarded for four consecutive "Head List" awards for his excellence in the design studio. He also received several merit scholarships for academic performance. He started his academic career at State University of Bangladesh where he worked for two and a half years before joining as a lecturer in the Department of Architecture, BRAC University in 2022. Before starting his academic career, he served as an architect at Plan to Perfection (P2P). Currently he is doing his Masters of Architecture in Energy and Environment division from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology.
His fields of interest are Architectural design & Construction, Sustainability, Environmental design, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Architectural simulation and Visualization.
Paper Abstract
When searching for "City of Mosques", the term Dhaka comes up. Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh and situated in the Bengal delta. Dhaka has gained this reputation because of the several thousand mosques that dot its skyline. Most of the mosque is built without considering the context and the standards. The attempt of this paper is to give design guidelines of mosques for the environmental and urban contexts of the Bengal delta. The design Guidelines include controls and suggestions in relation to open space, height, circulation, landscape, prayer area and urban tissue in respect to the context of delta. Scale and relation with the neighborhood will also be addressed.
