Paper Abstract
Integrating Biophilic Design into Mosque Design to Improve Their Environment and Restore Their Role in the Egyptian City
Many studies emphasize the role of biophilic design in enhancing human well-being and providing healthy spaces in harmony with nature and help in reducing stress, especially with the negative effects of recent technologies on various human activities.
As many worshipers in many newly built mosques suffer from the lack of functionally, psychologically, and environmentally comfortable spaces in mosques designs, this paper aims to provide solutions and approaches integrating biophilic patterns into mosques designs. This can be achieved by:
- identifying and classifying different biophilic design patterns and benefiting from their effects.
- identifying the relationships between mosque design and biophilic patterns in terms of psychological, cognitive, and psychological impact.
- using surveys to assess people's responses to biophilic patterns that can be provided in the mosque according to the spatial, cultural, and environmental conditions surrounding the mosque.
- The research also deals with analysing a case study for applying biophilic design patterns to improve human well-being worshipers in functional, physiological, physical, and social aspects.
