The diversity and richness of the forms of artistic and decorative designs of the Islamic architecture represents the source of unit and harmony characterizing the cultural and civilizational Islamic heritage. It represents an invitation for protection of the artistic identity and the universality of the Islamic invitation by preserving the civilizational heritage and the architectural and artistic Islamic identity and confirmation of the high civilizational and intellectual position thereof. In Algeria, religious buildings constitute a rich heritage in which the diversity of forms of expression of architectural thought flourishes according to several particularities. These religious buildings manifest themselves remarkably in mosques and their architecture is the result of multiple influences, essentially geographical, but also political, social and climatic. These mosques therefore present a more diversified heritage to be able to limit it to a single typology. However, the current context of globalization characterized by the reproduction and importation of new styles, as well as the hybridization of models without any identity, endangers these achievements. Following this observation, we raise the issue of the identity value of mosques in Algeria which continues to be raised every day by historians, architects and heritage actors; it remains at the heart of the debate of any researcher who considers the defense of national architectural identity a major challenge. To what extent has identity architecture inspired by our cultural heritage been used in the expression of newly built mosques in Algeria while respecting modern technologies? While our interest in this presentation focused on evaluating the identity of the architectural elements of some ancient and contemporary mosques, in the quest for principles to consolidate the capacity to reconcile the identity unity established over the centuries and modern technologies.
