ICMA 02
KUALA LAMPUR
2019
INTRODUCTION
A mosque or masjid, in Arabic, is often referred to as a place of worship for the Muslims and is associated with the ritual act of prayer or solat or salah
to almighty Allah.
The mosque, as a structure, is also described as a religious building, built to serve Muslim men and women, the ummah, not only as a place dedicated to ritual prayers but also as a centre of learning and a place to conduct various activities in sustaining the well-being of the community.
Through this conference, the selected research papers will be presented and discussed intellectually to achieve the ‘practical and scientific’ vision of the future architecture of mosques from the underlying function, design, technology and structures.
The International Conference on Mosque Architecture (ICMA) is a triennial conference that focuses on the mosque architecture, owned and operated by the Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture (www.alfozanaward.org).
The ICMA 2019 is under the patronage of HRH Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Abdullatif Alfozan Award for Mosque Architecture (AFAMA) and President, Saudi Space Commission (SSC).
Jointly organized by the Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU), Dammam, Saudi Arabia, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and ATSA Architects, Malaysia, ICMA 2019 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia will be the second edition after the first conference held at the Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) in Dammam, Saudi Arabia in the year 2016.
