Paper Abstract
Title: Balancing Aesthetics and Functionality: Integrating Solar Panels and Dome Design in Al-Mansour Mosque, Amman
Traditionally, mosques are distinguished by their iconic domes. However, the growing need for roof space in modern mosque design has led to practical competition with solar panels, vital for energy provision. At the Al-Mansour Mosque in Shafa Badran, Amman, Jordan, the design prioritized solar panels on the roof, which, unfortunately, affected the aesthetic appeal of the mosque’s interior ceiling.
The mosque's supervisory committee, responsible for overseeing its construction and operational aspects, enlisted the author's expertise in interior design. To address functional and aesthetic concerns, the author proposed the addition of primary and secondary internal domes and collaborated with HVAC engineers to redesign the false ceiling, ensuring a comfortable and climate-controlled environment for the congregation.
